The Weeknd has dropped his new single “Call out my name” from the Album “My Dear Melancholy” along with a bomb video filmed on the dark and empty streets. The feeling in this video is mysterious and really draws you in from the first chord and lyric and like most Weeknd videos there is great conceptual artistic direction.
The song itself doesn’t go too far from the style we have seen him do in the past infact the sound and production of Call out my name could probably have it fit perfectly into the Starboy album. But that’s not to say it’s not a killer track in its own right. I dig the track, lyrically it tells a story and is not as lyrically abstract as most of the songs on the Starboy album.
This words depict a story of an intense and passionate relationship turning into hurt and struggle, expressed in lyrics like “I want you to stay, even though you don’t want me. Girl, why can’t you wait ’til I fall out of love?” With the eerie robotic background vocals doubling up allot of the main lyrics to pull on our heart strings.
Overall this is an epic installment to the The Weeknds catalogue and Im excited to hear more of the Album.
